Nick and Sean are the boys that survived a vampire battle in The Forsaken. You can see them here: http://members.tripod.ca/~angelspace/Lucy.html#Forsaken
and incidentally find Lucy's much superior stories about them as well.

I rather like them. Nevertheless;

Natural Places that I Know by Heart

Prologue

The moon that rose over Jamaica was huge, larger even than the moon seen from the deserts of the southwestern USA. It shone brightly, its rays a little blurred by passing through the tattered vapors of the evening clouds, illuminating the surface of the ocean, highlighting rippling waves. It painted Nick’s face silver-white, with black shadows for cheekbones and glistening hollows in place of his eyes.

“The wind is rising. It’ll probably rain,” said Sean, over the slapping sound of water against the boat’s sides.

Nick nodded, shadows and light playing across his face. He coughed a little as Sean rose, reaching for Nick’s too-thin wrist to help him stand. The first drops of rain pattered on the deck as they went below to the small berth.

Sean didn’t light the lamp, only stood for a moment in the humid darkness, pulling his friend close for the comfort of his body heat. Nick’s face fit perfectly in the hollow of his neck, breath gentle on his skin. The arms that wrapped around his waist felt weaker than they should.

They’d been searching for a long time, and Nick’s cure was no closer than it had been a year ago. The number of days they could stand together this way was shrinking. Already he sensed an eagerness in the teeth that nibbled his ear, and a taint of hunger in the mouth that sucked lightly at his throat.

He wasn’t really certain that he would stop those teeth from tearing him open, if they never found a cure.

“You smell so good, Sean,” Nick murmured in his ear. “Like salt, and you taste like metal.”

They lay down together in the darkness, and Sean drew a map of kisses over Nicks’ body. He found canyons at his hipbones, and mountains at his feet. There were tributary rivers in the veins that laced Nick’s forearms, and a cave in his mouth. He knew exactly where every bend in the terrain lay, every curve around a soft jawbone.

He thought that perhaps he was still lost.
