The guys were amazing last night. What joy, to discover that not only have they gotten much better as musicians during the decade long break-up, but that Victor Krummenmacher (the bassist and Cute One) has come out of the closet! Thus providing me with the joy of watching him flirt with the violinist all though the show, a new sig line, and enough cowboys on acid jokes for a lifetime.
::happy sigh::
CVB, the only band you’ll see with both a slam pit and a highly skilled violinist. Wouldn’t have been surprised to see AJ or Chris there, in disguise. Hee!
Here’s my new sig line-
“Raise your hand if you slept with me before I was gay.”
–Victor Krummenmacher , bassist of Camper Van Beethoven, at the Great American Hall in San Francisco, 8/24/02
They played the song “Tusk” from their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s unsuccessful album of that name. It was great! Hilariously surreal, and yet it sounded pretty good with all the keboard effects and fancy guitar work. Apparently the CD they just released (the cover of Tusk) was recorded in a snow-bound cabin in the Sierras in 1987, and lost until recently. Did this incident contribute to Victor's coming out as gay? Hmm. According the lead singer, David Lowry, they should have suspected something when Victor took Stevie Nick's singing parts.
No snippets tonight, as I watched all the MTV stuff I taped while at the show, and am now in toxic shock. But I do suspect that CVB slash fic may appear on this journal soon. Maybe a Chris/JC-at-the-show kind of thing. While the Justin’s away, what’s his posse doing?
Night!
