Tonight we have a guest speaker in my Detachable Id.
The lovely and incomparable SO had something to say on the subject of boybandery, and I read it and wept.
Hope you like it too.

The First Boyband
by stungunbilly's SO
All this talk of boy bands, and there is no mention of the original Balkan boy band ~3 Mustaphas 3~! True, they never hit the big-time when they were actually boys. At that time they were the Szegerely Youth Ensemble, as well as the house band for !The Crazy Loquat!, the local saloon that boasted "24 Hour Funtertainment", under the tutelage of their Uncle Patrel. Also, the Mustaphas themselves never actually danced, for in their youth there were dancing bears instead. But all such wondrous childhood things must end, and as they came of age, the were smuggled out of their native Szegerely in refrigerators (which were in fact smuggled out as well). From their capsules of metal and plastic they emerged to take the world by storm! None were more skilled than Mustapha! None had better fashion sense than Mustapha! Mustapha were giants beyond their years! The stuff of legends! Now I tell you this that none may forget those who laid down the grand musical railroad on which the world happily glides to this day.
But were can I find this legendary music, you ask? Well, Amazon.com of course! (Be sure to type "3 Mustaphas 3" and not "Three Mustaphas Three".) But if you wish to delve deeper into the fez laden legacy look here: http://www.kartini-music.com
Be prepared to start on a musical journey that exceeds all borders and challenges the very openness of your mind...
(And personally I'd start with the compact discs of "Shopping" or "Soup of the Century".)

Interesting, wasn't it?
On a last note before I fall into bed like a lump of lead, I have to mention a story or two by Scotty that I thought were perfect examples of her talent and style.
Her greatest gift, IMHO, is not her grasp on subtle psychology as it appears in behavior. It is her ability to draw it out lingually without resorting to direct explication.
"Fog" brings together a number of the elements that appear in her other tales; Justin and JC, uncertainty, troubles in communication, and intense chemistry. In this story they come together with a resolution that leaves me sighing in satisfaction. A pleasure that repeats itself over the course of multiple reads. Lighter than her other works, it is still fulfilling.
"Nothing But Net" gets rec'ced out the whazoo for a reason. Suffice it to say that this is one of the finest examples (also see Amber) of how AUs can be the best way to express hidden, yet consistent aspects of a character. The JC and Justin in this story show a lot of the personality traits that appear in the various glimpses we have of them. And in a different context, how different they seem!
I'm still dying to follow them around after the end and Mary Sue them to the edge of sanity.
Alright, another snippet tomorrow. Maybe Smallville? Maybe more borderlinesociopath!Justin?
Who knows?
