So I'm probably the only science fiction fan who hasn't watched Battlestar Galactica The Remake yet. I've sort of planned to do so, but been involved with other things, and not in any rush. But now? Having read Dirk Benedict's (Starbuck on the old series) essay on the subject, I'm much more eager.

That poor man. The saddest thing about the (creepily sexist and ignorant) argument he makes, is that he clearly thinks his characterization of Starbuck was cutting edge. Or maybe that he obviously is convinced the original Battlestar Galactica was a good show. Wait- maybe it's that he can't tell the difference between the effects of global marketing by corporations and the effects of feminism. Or, or, how he misses the fact that many of the women who thought he was so hot were attracted by his *gasp* looks, instead of his brilliant characterization. No, no. That's not it. The saddest thing about this essay is that he honestly hasn't noticed how many fans came for the homoerotic subtext between him and Apollo, and never thought Starbuck particularly heterosexual in the first place.
