Buffy. Hmm.

This week's ep was rather controversial, eh?
As I usually do, I liked all the characters, and sympathized though I often wished they'd behaved better. It was great seeing Will again. I was moved by both the scenes between the boys and their moms. The great tragedy is the way they batter each other over their own pain.

I loved seeing Xander chain Spike, but then you knew I would, didn't you?
Not enough Andrew in the episode for my taste. Oh well. Giles!

Robin seethes beautifully. Yum. I hope the man makes it through the show. I want him for an ongoing character. As I do Spike. Please, guys, don't kill each other.

Buffy was in Excessively Cold Command Mode. It looked good on her, though not so much lovable as respect-worthy.

All of them could use a little team-focus as opposed to personal agenda pursuance.

[livejournal.com profile] eliade got me thinking the other day about the essence of the vampire demon. She said some interesting things about it as well as making a number of other interesting postulations.

Here are the

Playing a bit on the idea of the demon-that-inhabits; where does it come from? Is it a special breed of vampire-spirit demon? What if there are different breeds, most of which are evil but some of which are not-so-evil, or even comparatively good?
Imagine, if you will, that Spike is an unusual breed of vampire-demon (Spike used here as the demon inside William). A breed that, while in its instinctive behavior fairly loyal, affectionate, and good-humored, finds itself amongst a group of vampires of a more typically vicious, hot-tempered breed. Would it not be natural for him to attempt to fit in with his new family?
What if Spike, left to his own devices, tends toward becoming gentler all the time, albeit with annoying well-developed uncivilized habits, such as smoking and watching Passions?
Perhaps much of Spike's violence came from being "raised" by Dru, Angelus, and Darla. It would explain a lot about what we saw in him prior to the soul-restoration.

she drew from my brain.
