Here I am again, finally. I've been consuming media a lot and not writing, which I hope will soon change. RIght now I'm watching the DVD set of Big Love. Which I knew would tick me off, and go me! It does. But I'm still sucked in. I've now seen Lost Season 1, half of Season 2, watched the first 4 episodes of Prison Break, the full run so far of Friday Night Lights, Ugly Betty up through episode 8, and The US version of my beloved The Office, Season 1. Oh, and am watching through the seventh Doctor again to warm up for 8 and 9, with an eye to experiencing the Torchwood joy everyone else is squeeing about.
I am way behind on SGA and SPN, but that's okay. Season 1 of SPN left me in my happy place, as did the last ep I've seen of SGA. I'm enjoying the fiction in those fandoms, and SPN RPS has almost completely dominated my brain. Jared and Jensen are totally not my normal type, but they are so insanely cute together.
Is there any femmeslash out there for Big Love, anyone know? Because while I'm all for mutually flexible contracts, the patriarchy thing makes me want to hit things with sticks. If that society were really all about personal choice, where are the women with multiple husbands? Or women only? I want to read about the women having orgasms completely unrelated to the annoying patriarch. (Patriarchs tend to make my flesh crawl.)
Friday Night Lights is very engaging, but I think I'd have become a nihilist if I lived in that town. All the football and cheerleading stuff, all the town spirit. It'd have killed me. I never knew any of those people growing up, and my school was nothing like that, and I'll be eternally grateful. Now I can just watch the show and for me it's like a space opera or any other show set in a fantastical world with imaginary people. Very, very attractive imaginary people. Who shout a lot. Riggins and Jason totally need to kiss on screen, for the good of humankind. And Matt and Julie are interesting enough that I actually care whether they make it work or not.
Ugly Betty I can't talk about yet; I'm entertained, but I need to see where they're going with this.
Lost, I'm loving. It's got it's faults, but I'm intrigued and I care about the people, and they had the guy who played Adebisi! I loved that actor. I'm surprised how much I really like Jack. He's the hero guy, and for once I tend to be able to relate to his moral compass. I was all about Sayid before, but though I enjoy his storyline still, I'm more interesed in Sawyer, Jack, Sun, JIn, and John Locke now. And, of course, Mr. Echo.
On the subject of Prison Break; hmm. Jury still out. It's no Oz, but it may serve.
I really enjoyed Season 1 of the Office US. The Jim/Pam is much stronger than the Tim/Dawn stuff was in the first season of the UK version, but it's really still funny. Though I passionately miss Gareth. And also, I find Gervais much funnier in the main role.
