Still riding high on the joys of Yaoicon, I have begun working on this bit of silliness:
The Power of Proactivity

Omi had explained it carefully to Ken, using a dry-erase board and colored markers that allowed him to give each member of Weiss in his diagram the proper haircolor: red for Aya, black for Ken, yellow for Yohji, and for himself, golden-brown. For the last, he’d had to mix shades. He wrote a paragraph of description next to each little cartoon, and the arrows were all either black or purple, depending on the direction they pointed. The smallest assassin had, in fact, taken a quick photograph of the project after it was completed, justifiably proud of the beauty of his work.

Ken was hopelessly confused.

“It’s this way, Ken. You have an… affinity for Aya-kun. Aya-kun can’t seem to stop having dramatic arguments with Yohji, and we all know that very little breaks through that terrible reserve of his. So, Aya must have feelings for Yohji-kun. Yohji-kun is obsessed with sleeping with all the women over 18 in the city, but will do anything I ask of him if I make big eyes and let my lip tremble. While I… Ken, are you listening?

“Of course, Omi. Only… what are you talking about?”

Omi snorted with impatience. “Ken-kun! Pay attention! Everyone is attracted to someone who wants someone else!”

Ken’s big brown eyes remained empty of anything resembling comprehension.

“Who am I attracted to?”

Another snort from his tiny instructor.

“Aya-kun! Ken, please try to listen. You are attracted to Aya, Aya-kun wants Yohji, Yohji-kun is in love with me, and I…” Omi blushed.

Ken worked very hard not to interrupt.

“I likeyouverymuchKen. So my plan takes into account everyone’s needs and desires, and if we all follow it carefully, everyone will get what they want. Mostly.”

A soccer ball fell unnoticed out of Ken’s hand, and bounced across the room. It made the only sound for a long minute or two, while Ken processed Omi’s words. Then he gasped, and stood abruptly.

“But… Omi, I’m not gay!”

Omi sighed, irritated.

“Gay, bi, queer; all that isn’t important right now. What matters is that if we all work together, we can achieve total sexual happiness! If each of us is willing to yield to the one who desires us, then in return we will enjoy the favors of the one we really want.”

“But Omi…” tried Ken, wondering madly if Aya was nearby and perhaps overhearing this conversation. He could almost feel the cold steel of Aya’s sword against his spine. Or, wait. He actually could.

“Shiiiiiii-neeee!” shouted a voice in his ear. Apparently Aya was back from delivering the latest batch of orchids to the Mad Scientists' Academy of Horticulture.

Regarding homoerotic subtext; I've been watching through my tapes of Once a Thief, and I am stunned by the amount of slashy subtext in the show. I'd seen lone episodes before, but it had been some time. Smallville has a good deal of subtle slashy implications, (or not so subtle), but I have to admit OaT has it beaten. The episode "Drive, She Said", has so much Director/ Li Ann flirtation that I had to have a nice iced tea to cool off afterwards.

And Mac Ramsey is obviously crazy about Victor Mansfield, who keeps rejecting him.
I'm so glad that they put this show on American television.

One area in which OaT lags behind Smallville is in the fact that Mac is not actually an Evil Overlord in the making, nor is Vic likely to don a cape. But this small deficiency is more than redeemed by the tendency of the Director to wear all-leather ensembles at briefings, and also to drag her agents to kinky sex clubs.

Good stuff.

G'night, folks.
