So JC has a thing, or really several things, and they are all about Justin. Little things and big things and in-between things, things with special names and things that have no names at all. Or at least none that he knows.
They agreed, the first morning, that they were not in love.
Justin knows a lot about love in a certain sense; he knows what you do when you are in it. He knows what other people think about it, and how it enhances or detracts from their perceptions of him and them and the music. He knows how to explain it, which authors offer the best advice on it in the self-help section, and that it is the best experience a man can know short of a face-to-face encounter with God.
There is one aspect of it he doesn’t know. He doesn’t know how it feels. Or, rather, he knows how to think about how it feels. But he has never felt it.
He would probably be shocked to learn this.
JC contrasts with Justin sharply in this matter. JC hates to think too much about feelings, as thinking about them can interfere with what he likes to call “the flow”. JC drips love in messy squelches all over his chosen friends and family, as inevitably as a baby drools.
JC, however, does not know how to name the thing he feels when Justin is lying next to him naked and he can feel every breath of air in and out of Justin’s lungs as if it were breathed into his own body.
