I'm babbling, folks.
Just a little.
Today I’m going to discuss a few of the things I look for when I enter a new anime fandom.
The first thing I expect to find is a hero. Usually he is a die-hard, reckless hero with the self-protective instincts of a young Spanish man in a bull-running craze. Other times he is sweet and yin as can be, or maybe cool and rude and distant. In any case, he is certainly obsessive and often foolish.
Then I look for his polar opposite, Mr. Evil. Mr. Evil is often misunderstood, but sometimes he is just plain bad. Fortunately for me, Mr. Evil is also usually gorgeous and beautifully fixated on our attractive, yet suicidal hero.
The music comes into my heart just about now, and the dance begins.
There should be tension between Mr. Evil and Our Hero, especially the sort which include the following items, separately or together:
grunting
sweating
long moments of staring into each other's eyes
explication of childhood trauma
bondage
gasping
declarations of eternal... enmity
threats delivered in a very low, very intense voice
long rambling divulgences of personal philosophy
wrestling, hopefully of the scantily-clad variety
Am I being too shallow?
Don't answer that.
:O)
