My voracious apetite for a certain selection of J2 and Winchester stories inadequately fed, I've begun another Buffaissance. Or should that be Jossaissance? Anywise, I'm returning to the BtVS/AtS 'verse with strangely unabated love. Still incredibly fond of Xander, fascinated by Spike, and (hurray!) I have mercifully shed a lot of my memories of later-AtS Angel and found my early Angel interest again.
My original entry into the Buffy fandom was as a Xander/Angel enthusiast, and although I have always enjoyed Spike/Angel, and later learned to utterly adore Spike/Xander, I'm surprised to find a newly awakened hunger for the Xangel. I almost always prefer pairings to threesomes, but I'm also finding that, in good hands, Spike/Xander/Angel works for me very, very well. AUs are also working for me again in that 'verse, though they again have to be internally consistent to work.

Anybody have any Xander/Angel, Spike/Xander, Spike/Angel, or S/X/A recs that are burning a hole in their journal? Especially recent and most especiall non-Buffy or Willow-bashing. Conflict good, bashing bad. Flist?

Characterization in the Buffy-verse is rather complicated, and IMHO has an enormous range of potential reasonable extrapolations for each main character, since the 'verse is basically driven on personalities and their quirks and yet there is no consistent rationality to explain all of Joss' detours and variations. Given this, combining characters in pairings or groupings always creates both deeply interesting possibilities and a strong need for a given story to channel the reader to a particular vision of the people/world in the story. Added to these complications, the physics of the 'verse are hugely malleable, the established canon events are frequently altered in later episodes, and Joss' brilliance with ensemble writing means that the social interactions of any characters have inevitably influential effects on the overall social structures that make up the basis of any storyline. I don't think any avenue of fan fictional exploration has been completely mapped by competent writers, and that's just amazing. It's Plastiverse!

So if you also factor in that any one of the main and many of the peripheral people in BtVS or AtS could be a central character in their own right, I can't imagine any real end to the fandom, unless people all lose interest. I've lost interest periodically, but come back so many times already that I expect I'll still be doing it decades from now.

And I STILL don't know what vampires are made of!

Or have any Xander icons. That's just sad.
