Tactics is an (I think) ongoing manga and also a completed anime series of 26 episodes.
The subtext is completely pervasive; though it is never outright yaoi, it is the next best thing. Plot-wise, it is entertaining, though a bit silly, with over-the-top messages about devotion that tend to bring out the cynic in me. Fortunately the main characters tend to the cynical as well. The artwork, however is lovely. Like Yami no Matsuei, it favors image over animation, but also like the fore-mentioned it has beautiful colors, the folks are pretty to look at, and better than YnM it has dynamic scene-layouts that are a delight to watch even when the action is slow. Since I like fansubs best, slow animation works well for me, giving me time to read the lines and still watch the events unfold.
The worst thing about the series is the lack of fan fiction available. Having seen the ending, I'm in need of written closure.
